Vasantham is an Indian language, predominantly Tamil, channel dedicated to the Singaporean Indians in Singapore. Tamil programmes were initially aired on Channel 8 from 1963 to 1995 and from 1 September 1995 on Premiere 12 which was renamed as Central in 2000. Tamil programmes were aired under Vasantham Central then. On 19 October 2008, Vasantham was relaunched as a standalone Tamil channel which resulted in the airtime of Tamil and other Indian languages programmes to increase from 29 to 69 hours each week. This allowed for the airing of more reality programmes, live talk shows, reruns and the introduction of long form dramas.
